About this walk...
The South Head Heritage Trail is a scenic 1.1km loop at the tip of South Head in Watsons Bay, typically taking around 30 to 60 minutes to complete. The walk begins near Camp Cove and follows an old cobblestone road, meandering past Lady Bay Beach, a small and secluded cove, before winding up toward the iconic Hornby Lighthouse. Along the way, the trail offers sweeping views of Sydney Harbour, the Pacific Ocean, and the surrounding cliffs, making it a perfect spot for photography and coastal appreciation.
As you follow the trail, you’ll encounter historic gun emplacements and remnants of old military installations, adding a touch of history to the natural beauty. The elevated sections of the walk provide panoramic vantage points where you can watch the waves crash against the rocks, spot whales during migration season, or simply pause to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. The loop finishes back near the starting point, making it an easy yet rewarding coastal walk for visitors of all ages and fitness levels.
