ABOUT THIS BEACH
Balmoral Beach in Mosman is one of Sydney Harbour’s most popular swimming spots, loved for its calm, clear water and leafy foreshore. Families flock here for shaded picnic areas under giant fig trees, safe swimming enclosures and the relaxed village feel. The southern end is home to the iconic Boathouse Café and a big playground, making it a favourite for parents with kids in tow.
The middle section features Balmoral’s famous netted swimming area and broad wooden jetty, where kids line up for daring jumps and younger swimmers can paddle safely. Paddleboarders and kayakers launch from the open-water zone just north of the jetty, exploring the harbour’s flat conditions and nearby coves.
A stroll along the foreshore path takes you past a pretty gazebo and onto the headland, with sweeping views across Sydney Harbour towards North Head. Keep going and you’ll find Edwards Beach, a quieter stretch of sand tucked around the corner. With calm waters, cafés nearby and plenty of space for families, Balmoral is one of the best all-day destinations on the Lower North Shore.
