Bungan Beach is one of Sydney’s Northern Beaches’ best-kept secrets, tucked behind cliffs and bushland along Barrenjoey Road. Its tricky access and limited parking keep the crowds away, making it a perfect escape for those seeking peace, quiet, and uncrowded waves. The soft sand and natural surroundings give it a secluded, untouched feel that’s rare on the Northern Beaches.
Advanced surfers love Bungan for its high-quality surf breaks and relative solitude. The waters are patrolled, offering some safety for swimmers, but the beach is best suited to confident swimmers comfortable with a more remote setting. Families with young children may prefer nearby beaches with easier access and calmer waters.
At low tide, adventurous visitors can explore the rocky coastline at the south end or even walk over to Mona Vale Beach. Just be prepared for the uphill trek back - the walk rewards you with stunning views and a true sense of Northern Beaches adventure. Bungan Beach is ideal for those who want a quiet, scenic surf or a peaceful day away from the busier shores.

PARKING INFO
There is no dedicated beach car park. You’ll need to find street parking on Barrenjoey Road or Karloo Road. One entry point is a steep driveway on the corner of Barrenjoey & Karloo Roads in Mona Vale, marked by a small wooden sign for “Bungan Beach.” From there, it’s a short bush walk down to the beach. Alternatively, park on Bungan Head Road and take the steep steps down to the north end of the beach.
