ABOUT THIS BEACH

Great Mackerel Beach is definitely a less well-known beach in Sydney. Situated on Pittwater with the Ku-Ring-Gai National Park behind it, Great Mackerel is one of the stops on the Palm Beach Ferry. This long strip of sand is home to a number of beach-front houses, however, there is no road nearby, and this beach is technically only accessible by boat.

If you feel so inclined to take a wander, it’s possible to walk from Great Mackerel Beach to West Head – and vice versa. However, the track is rather hidden and involves a little rock-scrambling until you reach the small dirt path that winds around past Resolute Beach, West Head Beach, and takes you all the way to the West Head lookout.

There are no facilities, cafes or amenities at this beach, but if you’re hoping for a little secluded getaway, Great Mackerel is the place to go!
