About this walk...
The Spit Bridge to Manly Walk is a renowned 10km coastal trail that offers a diverse experience of Sydney's natural beauty. Typically taking between 3 to 5 hours to complete, the walk traverses through lush bushland, past secluded beaches, and along scenic harbourside cliffs. Starting at Spit Bridge, the trail meanders through areas like Ellery’s Punt Reserve, Fisher Bay, and Clontarf Reserve, offering glimpses of Aboriginal rock engravings and historic sites. The path continues past Castle Rock Beach, Grotto Point Lighthouse, and Dobroyd Head, providing panoramic views of Sydney Harbour. Notable beaches along the way include Reef Beach, Forty Baskets Beach, and North Harbour Reserve, each offering unique spots for rest and reflection. The walk concludes at Manly Wharf, where walkers can enjoy the bustling atmosphere and perhaps take a ferry back to the city.
This Grade 3 moderate track is suitable for most ages and fitness levels, though some sections involve uneven terrain and stairs. While the trail is well-maintained and signposted, it's advisable to check tide times before setting out, as certain sections may be impassable during high tide. The walk is not dog-friendly due to its passage through Sydney Harbour National Park; however, alternative routes are available to bypass these areas. Along the journey, walkers can enjoy the serenity of bushland, the charm of hidden beaches, and the rich history of the area, making it a memorable experience for nature enthusiasts and history buffs alike.
