Best Sunset Spots on the Northern Beaches

So you’re looking for a great spot to watch the sunset on the Northern Beaches of Sydney? You’ve come to the right spot! The following beach & lookout spots are some of the only places where your view of the sunset is not blocked by too many bushes & trees.

PITTWATER

If you’re looking for a sunset spot on sand, these west-facing Pittwater beaches are great options (although they all face headlands, you still get a great sunset view):

LOOKOUTS

If you’re considering venturing up a hill and viewing the sunset from up high, the following spots are great options:

Barrenjoey Lighthouse (Palm Beach) - when you reach the top of the lighthouse, you’ll need to stick to the south side of the headland to see the sun. Follow the bushy East path towards the end of the headland, and you’ll find plenty of flat rocky spots looking over Palm Beach - perfect for watching sunset. Just make sure you’ve got a torch to help you get back after the sun goes down!

NOTE: Paid council parking through Governor Philip Park until 6pm, street parking also available around Waratah Rd.

North Mona Vale Headland Reserve - this grassy spot on the north end of Mona Vale is another nice spot to watch the sunset!

NOTE: There are several free parking spots available at the end of Hillcrest Ave, and plenty of street parking along that street.

Narrabeen Headland - park at the North Narrabeen Beach carpark opposite the NRMA Holiday Park. At the end of the carpark on the left you’ll find a wooden staircase. Follow this up and around the corner, and when you reach the fork in the road turn right. Shortly after, you’ll find a lookout overlooking Narrabeen Beach & the lagoon. There’s no place to set up picnic, but the view is stunning!

NOTE: Beach carpark is paid parking unless you have a Northern Beaches Parking Permit. Alternatively, you can find plenty of free street parking nearby. North Head (Manly) - overlooking Sydney Harbour & the city, North Head is arguably the best spot to watch the sunset on the Northern Beaches! Drive all the way to the carparks and you’ll find plenty of grassy spots to set up picnic as you watch the sun go down. Alternatively, if its cold & windy, simply reverse your car into your parking spot and set up camp in your car boot! You’ll still catch the sunset.

NOTE: This spot is busy and only available parking is paid ($5)
